Description
In 1992, the city of Denver commissioned American sculptor Luis Jiménez to create a 32-foot-tall rearing horse with brightly lit red eyes for the Denver airport grounds. Titled “Blue Mustang,” the sculpture symbolizes the freedom and wildness of the untamed horse herds that roamed the western plains during and before the European settlement of America’s western territories.
This lithograph, titled “Mustang” and released by TLLW in 1994, is based on preliminary sketches by Jiménez from the early stages of his conceptual development for the project.
Jiménez died on June 13, 2006. He was tragically killed in a studio accident in Hondo, New Mexico. The accident occurred when a large section of his sculpture, “Blue Mustang,” fell on him, causing fatal injuries.
